Cecil Warren Featherston, age 87, of Wautoma, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 31, 2023.
He was born at home on February 26, 1936 in rural Waushara County to John Warren and Lelah Frances (Waid) Featherston. He married Yvonne Frances Schwersinske on March 21, 1959 in Pine River. She preceded him in death on July 15, 2016. He married Elizabeth (Betty) Rohde on August 4, 2018, at Zion United Methodist Church in Neshkoro.
Cecil was a 1955 graduate of Wautoma High School. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1958 to 1961. After his service, Cecil and Yvonne made their home in Montello, where he worked as a mechanic. They built a house in rural Wautoma in 1968, and then he worked as a machinist in Berlin. In his later years he worked as a custodian in the local schools, a job in which he took great pride. Cecil and Yvonne were thrilled to take a trip to Hawaii, and also enjoyed going camping with their children. Cecil loved music, and he and Betty enjoyed attending local folk music concerts and other activities. Cecil enjoyed hobby farming (and John Deere tractors), hunting, fishing, learning about local history, raising chinchillas, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Cecil is survived by his wife, Betty, Wautoma; four children: Charlotte (Bob) Nigbor, Redgranite; Christine Cherney, Stevens Point; John Featherston, Wautoma; and Brian (Lisa) Featherston, Fond du Lac; 12 grandchildren: Sara (Joe) Reinsbach, Eric Nigbor, Melissa (Kurt) Ninneman, Jeremy Featherston, Steven (Hailey) Nigbor, Jackie Cherney, Reanna Featherston, Kayla (Randall) Depies, Jacob Featherston, Nicole (Derrick) Koback, Myranda Cherney, and Katheryn Cherney; 15 great-grandchildren: Ryan, Meradeth, Natasha, Ella, Noah, Cassie, Elizabeth, Lilly, Bentley, Brayden, Ellie, Bodhi, Bennett, Ava, and Lucie; three brothers: Eldon (Sherryl) Featherston, Syracuse, NY; Harold (Mike) Featherston, Berlin; and Boyd Featherston (Amy Schneider), Wautoma; two sisters, Betty (Ron) Kutzleb, Neshkoro, and Daisy Featherston, Berlin; two sisters-in-law: Judy Bauer and Joyce Lippert; and many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
