Bruce George Riendeau was born January 13, 1932 to Bruce and Helen Riendeau in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Northpark Academy where he met his future wife Shirley when she asked him to go to the Sadie Hawkins Dance. They were married on June 18, 1955 and were blessed with 53 years together. He attended Drake University while enrolled in the ROTC program where he graduated in Pharmacy. He entered the Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant and flew B-25 airplanes, where their first son Bruce was born while serving in Amarillo, Texas. They moved back to Chicago and made their home in Northbrook, Illinois where sons Dwayne and Reed and daughter Julie were born.
Bruce was a loving father and raised his children to know he was always there for them when they needed him. Besides running a family drugstore, they ventured into owning a gas station and the restaurant "I.B. Muggs" for 5 years. They discovered the beauty of Mt. Morris area and became part of this community, serving Pamida Pharmacy for the past 10 years, and practiced pharmacy until his final day. Besides building his strong work ethic into his family, he found time to coach his son's hockey teams and take his family fishing and there was always a beloved Boxer, Bulldog or Labrador or two or three, in the family to love. He and Shirley also enjoyed square dancing together. Grandchildren were a welcome addition to his influence and they were the ones who tagged him with the nickname "Grumpy". A favorite tradition was hosting family dinners on Sunday nights, presiding as head chef and providing ATV rides. He also enjoyed a good cup of coffee with friends or treating ice cream at local eateries, his usual being the Mt. Morris Coffee Mill, especially if the Cubs or Bears were winning.
He was taken too soon by a car accident Wednesday, June 29, 2011 while running an errand to Wautoma. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Shirley and his daughter Julie Roettger. He is survived by his cousin Mary Lou De Boer, Chicago, IL, his son Bruce and his wife Marcia and step grands Daniel and Erica, Waupaca, WI; Dwayne and his wife Patricia and grandson Duane of Wautoma, WI; son Reed and wife Germaine, grandchildren Megan, Bradley and Victoria of Hancock, WI; and son-in-law Jim and wife Vicki Roettger, grandchildren Will, Sarah and Margaret of Mankato, MN, dogs Klancy and Peyton and his ducks relocated to Animal Haven Zoo.
