Betty Mockler

July 2, 1923 — October 13, 2010

Betty Jane (Harrell) Mockler, age 87, of Neshkoro, passed away at Berlin Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, October 13, 2010. Betty was born on July 2, 1923 in Washington D.C., the daughter of William and Minnie Harrell.

Betty graduated from Lee Jackson High School in Fairfax County, Virginia in 1940. She worked for C&P Telephone Co. of Virginia, Illinois Bell, and WI Telephone - all under AT&T now - for 20 years. During this time she also worked on the family farm.

Betty received a 2 year teaching certificate from Waushara County Teachers College (County Normal) in 1970. She also completed a Certified Nursing Aid course from Wild Rose Hospital in 1972.

Betty was a member of Zion United Methodist church in Neshkoro. Church was a very important part of her life and her church family was very special to her. Betty was a member of the Neshkoro Senior Citizens and was very active in the sing-a-longs they did at several of the area nursing and elderly facilities. She was also a 50 year member of the Neshkoro American Legion Auxiliary.

Betty spent most of her life "worrying" about everyone else and was happiest when she could do something for someone else. She loved her family, friends, church, and community. This love and dedication will be hard to duplicate.

Survivors include her husband Ray Mockler; Daughters Betty (Steve) Zmaj from Tennessee, and Nora (Dennis) Beskow from Neshkoro; and Son Ed (Deb) Mockler from Westfield. Betty had nine grandchildren: Veronica (Greg) Minier, Kris Zmaj, Mike Zmaj, Paul (Marianne) Zmaj, Mindy Gottschall, Jackie (Bob) Sticha, Greg (Cori) Beskow, Brenda (Chuck) Isaacson, and Ryan (fiancée Jessica Runde) Mockler. Betty had eight great grandchildren: Josie, Nick, Rachel, Grace, Audrey, Caleb, Elli, and Drew.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, 4 sisters, 1 brother, 1 daughter - Ann, 1 grandchild - Stefan, and 1 great grandchild - Gwenyth.

Betty touched many people during her 87 years and she will be dearly missed by everyone that knew her.

Memorial Service will be held on Monday, October 18, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Zion United Methodist Church, Neshkoro. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. The Leikness Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements, www.wautomafuneralhome.com
