Bernice Mae Marks, age 93, of Wautoma, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at her home on Friday, November 22, 2024.
She was born April 14, 1931 in Waushara County, the daughter of Hugh and Pearl (Johannes) Scovell. She married Gordon E. Marks on December 30, 1950 at the Methodist Church in Wautoma.
Bernice was a graduate of Wautoma High School. She attended Stevens Point State Teachers College and Waushara County Normal School. Bernice taught two years at the Blader School, rural Wautoma and four years at the Spring Lake School. She was the secretary/treasurer of the family business, Marks Brothers Pickle Company for many years.
Bernice was a faithful active member of Grace United Methodist Church in Wautoma. She belonged to the United Methodist Women for many years. Bernice belonged to Homemakers and was a member and past president of the Wautoma Women’s Club. She enjoyed quilting, traveling, bowling and playing golf. She was a very passionate Green Bay Packers fan. Bernice will be deeply missed by her loving family and dear friends.
She is survived by her husband of almost 74 years, Gordon E. Marks, Wautoma; three children: Randy (Annette) Marks, Saxeville, Steve (Laura) Marks, Wautoma, Karen (Joseph) Lange, Sandwich, IL; eight grandchildren: Monica Marks, Mandy (Brian) Chick, Legion (Charo) Marks, Ashlea (Rob) Klootwyk, Taylor (Luke) Lilley, Jacob (Lydia) Marks, Domonic (Katie) Lange and Haley (Jacob) Murphy; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; three sisters: Barbara Wedde, Betty Edwards and Bernadyne Schultz; one brother-in-law, Arlon (Mary) Marks; two sisters-in-law, Janet Smith and Judy Marks. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers-in-law: Arden Wedde, Donald Edwards, Darrell Schultz, Carol Smith and Russell Marks; her parents-in-law: Rueben and Violet Marks; her stepfather, Larry Below.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 29, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church in Wautoma with Rev. Stephanie Taylor officiating. Burial will be at Wautoma Union Cemetery. The Leikness Funeral Home of Wautoma is assisting the family with arrangements. www.leiknessfuneralhome.com
