Bernard Griffin

October 8, 1928 — June 14, 2011

Bernard J. Griffin, age 82, of Wautoma, passed away early Tuesday morning, June 14, 2011 at Berlin Memorial Hospital.

He was born October 8, 1928 in Port Carbon, Pennsylvania the son of James and Jenny (Towey) Griffin. He married Caroline Hatcher on June 4, 1955 in Riverside, New Jersey at St. Peter's Church.

Bernard served his country in the United States Army. He received the Purple Heart for the injuries he sustained during the Korean Conflict. Bernard and his wife lived most of their lives in New Jersey where he was a Machine Operator for US Pipe in Burlington. They later retired to the Wautoma area 16 years ago where he enjoyed many days of fishing. Bernard and Caroline took many road trips around the United States with their four daughters where they made lasting memories. Bernard was always telling jokes and had a great sense of humor that will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his dear wife of 56 years, Caroline; his four daughters, Marjorie (Howard) Blumenfield, Caroline (David) Meetze, Sharon Griffin and Constance (Vincent) Rossano; six grandchildren, Sandra Eschert, Richard Eschert, Kevin Conrey, Jenn Conrey, Jeremie Conrey and Michael Griffin; two great-grandchildren, Bayden and Draten Conrey. He is further survived by his dear, life-long friend Chris Kittel, his faithful feline companion; Noel; nieces, nephews, other relatives.

Bernard was the last of 4 surviving siblings of James and Jenny Griffin that preceded him in death.

A Memorial Service for Bernard J. Griffin will be held on Friday, June 17, 2011 at 11:00am in the Leikness Funeral Home, Wautoma with Rev. Robert Stegmann officiating.

A time of visitation will be held on Friday from 10:00am until the time of services at the Funeral Home.
