Bernard Christen Jr.

Bernard Martin Christen Jr., age 72, of Wautoma, passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2019 at his residence.

He was born July 9, 1946 in Freeport, IL the son of Bernard M. and Mildred (Welsh) Christen Sr. He married Karen S. Risko on Dec. 9, 1967 at Norridge, IL.

Bernard served his country in the United States Navy from 1964 until 1968. He was employed as a semi truck driver for MBI Company. He and his wife resided in Pecatonica, IL before moving to Wautoma in 2007. He enjoyed his daily cup of coffee and was an avid Chicago Bears fan.

He is survived by his wife, Karen S. Christen, Wautoma; five children, Tammy Watford, Rockford, IL , Jodie (Greg) Smolka, Neenah, Frederick Christen, Andrew (Trina) Christen, and Timothy (Nicole) Christen,  all of Wautoma; seven grandchildren, Nicki (Josh), Michael, R.J. (Jessica), Cody, Leo, Timothy (Serena), and Angelina; three great grandchildren, Alice, Izabela, and Cadence. Bernard was preceded in death by his parents, and by one grandson, Timothy Christen Jr.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019 at 12 Noon at Leikness Funeral Home in Wautoma. Military honors will follow. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family would be appreciated.
