Beatrice I. Kitchen, age 88, of Coloma, passed away Saturday night, April 2, 2011 at Cecelia Place Assisted Living located in Pewaukee, Wisconsin. She was born in Coloma on September 12, 1922, to Crandall and Goldie Rogers. On December 25, 1940, Beatrice married Lester Wood and their daughter Nancy was born in 1942. On March 22, 1944, Seaman Second Class Lester Wood, died in action in the south Pacific. The year of 1946 brought happiness to Beatrice by marrying Vernon Kitchen. Although they lived in Wisconsin Rapids for a short time, they eventually moved to Coloma. In 1948, their daughter Penny was born. Beatrice worked at the Coloma Bank for 32 years. She loved the position and loved the camaraderie and working with the public. Anyone that worked with her loved her and knew she was a great lady to be around. A huge accomplishment was to assist in establishing the Coloma Public Library. She was active in the United Methodist church activities, bowled for many years, and loved square dancing all over the state. She has been a world traveler with her sister Nona and enjoyed every moment. She is survived by her daughters Nancy Thalacker (Lewellyn), Montello, WI, Penny Pine from Coloma, WI and special friend Richard Graichen from Pewaukee, WI. She is also survived by her grandchildren Todd and Cindy (Ely) Lewellyn, great grandchildren Thomas, Nicole and Bridgette and great, great grandson Tanner from Wasilla, AK, and grandchildren Michelle and Glen Podoll, and great grandchildren Jeremy and Jason from Coloma, WI, along with many nieces, nephews, friends, and the entire Kitchen family! Beatrice was preceded in death by her parents Crandall and Goldie Rogers, husbands Lester Wood and Vernon Kitchen, her sister Audrey Thurber and her grandson Brent Lewellyn. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 8, 2011, at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Coloma with Pastor Bill Dow officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., service at 3:00 and interment following the service at Hillside Cemetery, followed by a lite lunch at the church.
