Adele E. DeVries, age 98 of Wautoma, formerly of Milwaukee, went to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, June 25, 2020 surrounded by her family at Heartland House where she lived her final year. Adele was born on September 24, 1921 in Martinez, CA to August F. and Adele (Glander) Rahlves. She grew up in the San Francisco Bay area and graduated from the University of California -Berkeley. After WWII she attended graduate school at the University of Minnesota where she met her future husband, Robert G. DeVries. They were married September 5, 1947 and had four children. Adele was a school teacher for 25 years with the Milwaukee Board of School Directors. She retired in 1986 and moved to their home on Silver Lake.
Adele was very active in the Waushara County Area. She was a member of Christian Women’s Club, Homemakers, Rural Rembrandts, The Women of Trinity, Sand Country Weavers Guild, Friends of the Library, Second Time Around Shop in Berlin, County Fair Volunteer, Hospice Volunteer for 30 years and facilitated a weekly bible study in her home.
Adele is survived by her children: James (Judith) DeVries, Michael DeVries, Deborah (David) Hughes, Wendy (Duane) Lippitt; daughters-in-law: Kathy DeVries, Julie DeVries; 14 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; sister: Doris Crawford; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Robert DeVries; brothers: August (Winefred) Rahlves, Louis (Jean) Rahlves; brother-in-law: Robert Crawford; grandson: Nicholas and great great grandson: Tucker.
Memorial services will be held at 2PM on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at Calvary Lutheran Church, Princeton. Officiating at the service will be Pastor Robert Busse. Burial will take place at a later date in the Wauwatosa Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends at church on Saturday, August 8, 2020 from 12:30PM until the time of services at 2PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Agnesian Hospice Hope or to Calvary Lutheran Church, Princeton.
Adele’s family wishes to thank the staff at Heartland House and Agnesian Hospice Hope for the love and care provided to their mother.
